Circular Lighting Live is a conference and exhibition in central London focussed on developing a circular economy within our industry. Addressing the waste that comes with the CAT-A / CAT-B fit-out and strip-out cycle is a primary goal.
Our contribution is CAT-R.
CAT-R is the new office light fitting from NVC. It is a practical solution to two of our industry’s most pressing problems:
The waste that occurs every time a tenant rips out a CAT-A lighting scheme and replaces it with his own choice of CAT-B lighting. This is often repeated at the end of a tenancy, when a dilapidations clause requires the tenant to rip out the CAT-B lighting and reinstate the CAT-A lighting. It’s a repeating cycle that we all know needs to be stopped.
The unjustifiable cost of better CAT-B lighting. CAT-A lighting will have been selected by the landlord, usually on the criteria of low acquisition and installation costs. The tenant’s concerns will be low running costs, so a change to CAT-B lighting will be desirable, but only if a reasonable payback can be achieved. Sadly, the cost of CAT-B lighting in tenanted offices often cannot be recovered over the duration of the tenancy, so the tenant puts up with CAT-A lighting, with its high running costs.
CAT-R is designed on circular economy principles. It is assembled on-site from modules. Every module is snap-fit, plug and play (no tools required), and each one can be replaced, reused and redeployed to meet the varying needs of landlords and tenants.

Alongside, from 09:00 to 17:00 there are talks and presentations, not just from thought leaders in the field, but also from people with real-world experience of building circularity into commercial lighting .
At 17:00 there are the “Building Back Better” awards, followed by a drinks reception at 17:30. The event closes at 19:00.
