Easington Academy

NVC Lighting schools Easington Academy in improving lighting performance

Easington Academy is midway between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Middlesbrough and is close to the Durham coast.

It is part of the North East Learning Trust (NELT) and is focussed on providing a first class education to its 747 students alongside excellent sports and extra-curricular opportunities.

Recently the lighting in its sports hall and gym were upgraded to achieve better light levels and improved efficiency to help cut energy usage.

Previously the sports hall was illuminated by metal halide high bays which have been replaced by NVC KELSO IP20 LED low-bay industrial luminaires making them a robust choice for this environment whilst providing excellent light levels.

In the new gym area, the NVC TEXAS economical batten IP20 rated luminaires have been installed to replace the previous fluorescent battens. The old fittings were not only less efficient and provided inconsistent lighting but they will soon be unavailable to purchase in the UK starting from September 2023.

NELT’s Mechanical & Electrical Engineer Adam King said: “The NVC light fittings installed at Easington Academy are inherently more efficient in terms of energy usage than the previous lighting.  And because the light levels are so much better, we don’t need to turn so many of them on for much of the time so that drives down electricity consumption even further.”

NVC’s engineers are currently working on lighting surveys for the rest of the school site to make appropriate recommendations and product specifications and it is intended that the upgrades will be completed later this year.
